Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information that may be collected during a visit, why it is used, and when an outside service may receive it. By continuing to use Vilas County Criminal History, you accept the practices stated here.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or location entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.

Messages and Contact Submissions

An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to answer and manage the exchange. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.

Data We Gather Automatically

Loading a page can cause the server to receive routine technical details about the visit:

  • Page-view dates and times
  • Your device's assigned IP address
  • Browser name and version
  • Device category and operating system
  • Visited pages and approximate time spent
  • The referring website, when available

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files saved on a device. They help show broad usage patterns, including which pages draw traffic and where visits end. Analytics providers may combine that activity into summary reports. A browser can reject cookies, though doing so may change how some functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Route search requests to the selected provider
  • Maintain site availability and performance
  • Find and correct technical faults
  • Measure which content is used most often
  • Display advertising that may reflect user interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Vilas County Criminal History does not host, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It identifies official channels such as the Vilas County Sheriff, Wisconsin Circuit Court Access, the Wisconsin Department of Justice Crime Information Bureau, and the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry. Wisconsin criminal-identification information held by government agencies is governed in part by Wis. Stat. § 165.83. Visitor information collected here is not assembled into a consumer report or a dossier about another person.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and sharing rules apply to information submitted through those tools. Review the provider's policy before starting a search because this policy does not control its systems.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to the Vilas County Sheriff, Wisconsin courts, state agencies, or outside search services. Once you leave this site, the destination's privacy policy governs the visit. Check it before providing personal data.

Advertising providers may also measure activity across websites to select ads. That processing takes place under their own controls.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:

  • Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
  • Search partners processing a query you submit
  • Advertising networks serving page content
  • Government authorities acting under a valid legal demand

How We Protect Your Data

Reasonable security measures protect the data we collect. No internet service can promise perfect security, so we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access will never occur.

Users Under 18

This resource is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If such data is identified, it may be requested for deletion.

Your Data Rights

Applicable privacy and consumer-protection law may provide rights over personal data. The Wisconsin Public Records Law, Wis. Stat. §§ 19.31 to 19.39, governs access to records held by Wisconsin public authorities; it does not turn this private website into a public agency. Subject to applicable law, you may:

  • Request correction of inaccurate information
  • Ask what personal information is retained
  • Seek deletion where the law allows it
  • Object to certain forms of processing
